FDT/DTMs allow for a flexible integration of field devices into various engineering environments. Hilscher provides with its configuration, commissioning and diagnostic software SYCON.net an FDT based all-in-one solution. The components are developed by Hilscher engineers with fieldbus know-how. The CompoBus/D Configurator (DeviceNet Configurator) is a software package that allows the user to setup and maintain an OMRON multi-vendor Compo- Bus/D network through user-friendly graphical displays. DeviceNet configuration software: AH500 series DeviceNet modules, DVP series DeviceNet modules, CMC series DeviceNet cards for Delta motor drives. These intervals are also adjusted on the network configuration software. Explicit Message: type of non-priority, general use telegram. Used mainly in non-synchronous jobs like parameterization and configuration of equipments. 1.2.3 - Configuration File. Every DeviceNet node has a configuration file associated, called EDS (Electronic Data Sheet).
The DeviceNet Router provides a powerful and easy to configure solution to exchange data between DeviceNet™ devices and a Logix controller or PanelView via EtherNet/IP™. The module is able to asynchronously exchange data between a DeviceNet polling master (scanner) and an Ethernet PCCC device. Produced and consumed data sizes are independently configurable from 0 to 128 bytes each.
The consumed (DeviceNet) data can then be mapped to a PLC5 type address file, e.g. N33, and then read by an Ethernet device e.g. a PanelView. Similarly, the produced data (DeviceNet) can also be mapped to a PLC5 type address file, to which an Ethernet device could write. The Router supports transferring parameters from a DeviceNet device directly to Logix tags. The scaling of the parameter values will either be extracted from the EDS file imported or can be manually updated by the user. The module also provides a range of statistics and an on-board DeviceNet traffic analyzer to assist with fault finding. A built-in webserver provides detailed diagnostics of system configuration and operation, including the display of DeviceNet operation and communication statistics, without the need for any additional software.

I work almost exclusively with Allen-Bradley devices, and A-B has three PC-to-DeviceNet products: 1784-PCD (PCMCIA), 1770-KFD (RS232 serial) and 1784-U2DN (USB). RSLinx Lite communications software and the DeviceNet Node Commissioning Tool are both free of charge.
The A-B devices are fairly expensive, though for a quick and simple task like this I'll bet you could borrow one from your local Rockwell Automation office, especially if you gave them an opportunity to discuss their I/O products.
Most vendors have their own node commissioning tools that are specific to their interface device. Rockwell, Woodhead/Molex, Softing, IXXAT, Hilscher.... all of them sell DeviceNet interfaces that have utility tools.
